SPECIAL Siblings Groups |
|
Sondra Wolff, LCSW is pleased to announce the offering of Special Siblings psycho-educational groups for siblings of children with special needs. Siblings have a unique bond: the sharing of the same family and the longest relationship of their lifetime. Regardless of whether a brother or sister has a disability, siblings experience a vast array of emotions ranging from pride, joy, and admiration, to jealousy, rejection, and anger. Children with siblings with special physical and emotional needs are affected by the additional stress and challenges of their family life and will benefit from extra support and skills to cope with these unique life experiences. Each week, the Special Siblings group will focus on a specific topic of concern typically encountered by siblings including: embarrassment, over-identification, guilt, loss, isolation, resentment, and pressure to achieve. In addition, the group will emphasize and maximize the positive facets and strengths distinctly attributable to siblings including: sensitivity, maturity, independence, and empathy. Also, parents will receive information each week about the topic covered in the group in order to enhance their child’s experience at home. |
